Why can't I remove my site from this section, the delete button is grayed out?
We prefer you to remove the site from the program that it is involved in first, then you can come back here and remove it. This way you will know that your site may be participating in existing link exchanges, and may think twice about removing them as these partnerships will end when you remove the site.
Is there a limit to the amount of sites I can add?
No. you can add as many sites to the add/manage section. Consider this your inventory and you can pick certain sites to be part of different programs.
Can one site be involved in more than one program?
Yes. You can your site to any
or all of the programs.
Why is there a reciprocal and a one way program, wouldn't most folks prefer the one way program?
It is up to you. We added the reciprocal program because it is a great way for new websites to start out, and a great way to build relationships. Some sites may favor this kind of reciprocal linking and may be better suited to their site theme.
I thought the links would appear automatically, is there something wrong?
Some link building sites will automatically add you to the link exchange pool and you will have the links from and to your sites. But this is NOT good because it will look suspicious to the search engines. Another reason is that you may not want exchanges with certain sites. Thousands of links all at once may sound appealing but is not a good marketing strategy and is considered sneaky. So do it correctly by building up your links pages slowly and with folks you approve of. So at TradeWebLinks, you must request link exchanges and they have to be approved by the other members before your links will appear.
Why do you allow adult/casino sites?
We believe in giving everybody a chance. If we find them to be too offensive, we will remove them. If you don't want link exchange with these types of sites, you can 'deny' their categories in your site settings and/or when you request links.
I am waiting for this site to link back, but it is taking too long.
Some members do not login as much as they should to approve your links, so we do send out periodic emails to members reminding them to login and approve the links.
I don't want to add the code on my links page, what do I do?
We are adding a method for folks to opt out of the code placement, this will cost $5 per month.
I run my links page as a test and it gives a PHP CURL error, what else can I do?
In the links page, you will see a section of code that you tells you how to handle this. It involves putting comments around the CURL code and removing comments around alternate code. This is alternate code for folks who do not have CURL installed on their server. Please follow the instructions in the links page.
I can't get my page to validate, what is the cause?
Make sure you select the proper code for your website server technology. IE. PHP for your unix server, or ASP for a windows server. PHP will also run on a windows server. When the code is placed, you can launch the page and it will give you a message as to why it is not working, or you can click on the 'Validate' in your control panel and see a result that will tell you why the code is not validating. In most cases, we are finding that the links page is not reachable from the home page.
I have Static HTML in my site, can I use your program?
In most cases you will be on a unix based server and you will have PHP enabled, so you can just call your links page something like links.php and you will be fine.
In the case where you do not have PHP enabled, and have strictly HTML pages, then you can still add the code but you must create / edit your .htaccess file to have a line that says:
AddType application/x-httpd-php .html.
This will force your .html links page to be read as PHP, so you would put the PHP code on your HTML based links page. Please test thoroughly.
